Romans 15:13 NIV
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
MEET THE THERAPIST
Growing up, if any adult asked me the classic question “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I would answer, “I want to help people.” I knew I had a burning desire in my heart to help serve others but at the time, I didn’t know how “helping people” would translate to a career choice in adulthood. Then in 2007, I found the Marriage and Family Therapy masters program at Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi. The program gave me the tools to help resolve conflict in family systems as a therapist, as well as help me navigate solution finding for conflict in my own family in my roles as a daughter, sister, wife, mother and neighbor.
I am a native Floridian but married into a military family and have lived many places. My career positions have included a Mental Health Specialist for a school based community mental health program, a Behavioral Health Provider for home-based family therapy services, and a Clinical Therapist in a residential psychiatric hospital facility. My family moved to Chugiak in fall 2019 and we are loving Alaska and enjoying learning about the unique culture here. In spring 2020, my dream job serving veterans came available at the VA Hospital in Anchorage but SURPRISE! I passed it up. The COVID pandemic directed my career path to start my own private practice to serve families in the Anchorage/Mat-Su Valley regions. I look forward to getting to know you and learning with you how to navigate your current conflict.
My approach to therapy is Christian based, which means I compassionately sit with you, listen to you, and make sure you feel heard and respected in the most professional way. Adding a spiritual element to your therapy is by no means mandatory or required, however, if it is an area of interest for you I am equipped to add that aspect into your sessions if you choose. In addition, I take care to not force my religious faith on any clients, but is important for you to know that my Christian belief- that people are created as relational beings and find healing by safely connecting with others – does inform my approach to therapy. Increasing connectivity can be difficult when the very people you love are the ones you are feeling more and more distant from. In my session time, we will work towards personal healing and finding abundant life through rich relationships.
